Two offers, one application. As is the case with many retailers, there are two Toys R Us credit cards: the Toys R Us Mastercard and the Toys R Us Store Card, which can only be used to make Toys R Us purchases. You generally need good or excellent credit to get the Mastercard but only fair credit to get the store-only version. You can check your credit score for free on WalletHub to get a sense of which offer you're likely to get approved for. But it really shouldn't matter at the end of the day, as both cards are best (and equally rewarding) for Toys R Us purchases.

Treacherous choice to start. Whether you get approved for the Mastercard or the store-only alternative, you will be confronted with a decision upon opening your Toys R Us card account. Do you want 15% off your first purchase the day of account opening or "special financing" if that purchase totals $299+? Fortunately, this is an easy choice: Go with the discount. After all, Toys R Us credit cards have a feature called deferred interest, which means a high regular APR can retroactively apply to your entire original purchase amount if you're late with a monthly bill payment or you don't repay your full balance by the end of the special-financing period. All store credit cards that offer 0% intro rates use this same feature, so if you want a card to help you minimize the cost of big-ticket purchases, go with a general-purpose 0% credit card.

Great "R Us" rewards. Both Toys R Us credit cards give you 2 points per $1 spent at Toys R Us and Babies R Us. That works out to 8% cash back, considering 125 points are worth $5 in store credit. You'll also get 10% off purchases made on Thursdays (pretty sweet!) and up to 10% back on items bought from your Babies R Us registry, if applicable. The only thing the Toys R Us Mastercard gives you that the store card does not is 1 point for every $4 spent elsewhere. That's 1% back, which is about what you'd get from the average rewards credit card.

High interest rate. Both Toys R Us credit cards have an APR, which is well above the market averages for store cards (25.26%) and credit cards for people with fair credit (22.34%), according to WalletHub's latest Credit Card Landscape Report. So it's not a good idea to carry a balance from month to month.

No annual fee, but watch out abroad. Neither Toys R Us card charges an annual fee, which saves you about $15.55 per year relative to the average credit card (though it doesn't really set the pair apart from other store-affiliated credit cards). That's the good news. The bad news, if you get the Mastercard, is you shouldn't use it to make purchases abroad or to buy things from internationally based merchants. That's because it charges a 3% foreign-transaction fee. And getting a card without such a fee will enable you to save up to 11% on currency conversion, according to WalletHub research.

Toys R Us Credit Card Review

Sams Credit Card

The Sam’s Club Credit Card, issued by Synchrony Bank, is a basic store credit card for Sam’s Club members with a less-than-stellar credit profile. The Sam’s Club Credit Card can only be used at Sam’s Club and Walmart stores and doesn’t offer any rewards on purchases, so it’s mainly for borrowers who aren’t likely to qualify for a better credit card that can be used more broadly. If your credit is just fair (if you have a FICO score of 580 to 669) and you shop at Sam’s Club and Walmart frequently, this card can be a worthwhile financing tool, albeit with a steep interest rate.

Big Lots Credit Card

The Big Lots Credit Card is a good choice for frequent Big Lots shoppers who want the flexibility to pay for their purchases over time. If you can handle the deferred-interest financing deals properly, you can save a lot of money and gain the flexibility around paying your credit card bill. Most people, however, will be better off with a cash-back card that works anywhere and earns rewards of some kind. Try the CardCruncher tool to find the right card for you.

Surge Mastercard Credit Card

The Surge Mastercard® is one of the easiest credit cards to get if you have bad credit, but the card's annual and monthly fees may reduce its appeal. If you're considering the Surge Mastercard® to build credit, here's what you need to know before you submit your application.
