Details of Pros

0% deferred APR deals: This card does offer 0% interest on six, 12, and 18 month promotional credit plans.1 These offers are common among jewelry store credit cards, but Zales has the advantage in that it doesn’t require a down payment like some competitors do.

Low APR when you pay over 36 months: This card also gives you the chance to pay just 9.99% interest for 36 months on purchases of at least $1,500.1 This rate is well below the average APR for all credit cards, according to The Balance’s research.

Cardholder perks: Cardholders qualify for a yearly $50 birthday discount, 10% off repairs and service, and free standard shipping on purchases made with the Zales card, in addition to coupons and emails reminding you to clean or inspect your jewelry throughout the year. 1

Details of Cons

Deferred interest: If you do opt for one of the promotional 0% plans, note that you’ll be charged deferred interest if you don’t pay off your balance before the introductory offer ends—or if you make a late payment.1 Deferred interest means financing charges dating all the way back to your purchase date

Financing fees and restrictions: While you can secure 0% APR on promotional credit plans for six, 12, or 18 months, the plans for 12 or 18 months come with a $9.95 fee per transaction. Also note the minimum spending requirement for these plans—$300 for the six-month plan, $750 for the 12-month plan, and $3,000 for the 18-month plan.1

High ongoing APR: Outside of promotional credit plans and special financing offers, this card comes with a variable purchase interest rate of 29.99%.1 That’s a pricey rate, considering The Balance’s calculations put the average interest rate for all credit cards at around 20%.

Sams Credit Card

The Sam’s Club Credit Card, issued by Synchrony Bank, is a basic store credit card for Sam’s Club members with a less-than-stellar credit profile. The Sam’s Club Credit Card can only be used at Sam’s Club and Walmart stores and doesn’t offer any rewards on purchases, so it’s mainly for borrowers who aren’t likely to qualify for a better credit card that can be used more broadly. If your credit is just fair (if you have a FICO score of 580 to 669) and you shop at Sam’s Club and Walmart frequently, this card can be a worthwhile financing tool, albeit with a steep interest rate.
